It is often true to say that remodeling the master bedroom is one of the last places in the home that receives a makeover but it has become one of the most desirable on homeowner’s lists. If the bedroom is only used for sleeping, this can be a waste when it can be used for so much more; relaxing, reading or listen to music are just a few examples. In France for instance, there has always been a tradition to make the bedroom feel more sensual and although we have always been a little behind in this we are beginning to catch up with this tradition.
However, to achieve this effect, requires the use of certain color shades like those found in certain pinks, reds and peaches. If you are fond of candlelight then the addition of strategically placed mirrors will give a dramatic effect that could not be done with conventional lighting. Whilst mirrors placed in unusual places can reflect candlelight and tropical plants can add an air of mystery.
Obviously the room lighting is important as it shouldn’t be too bright but at the same time not to dim either, so plenty of soft lighting is the best compromise. The colors used when you create this type of bedroom are paramount for it to work well, so use shades of antique amber or slate blue for example. If you are trying to achieve a sanctuary effect when remodeling the master bedroom, then soft pillows, luxurious throws, landscape paintings and mirrors will promote private reflection.
Generally a relaxing lounge chair with a floor lamp and table will also work well if you want to use it as a reading room as well. The effect can be further refined when you remodel you master bedroom by adding something that shows your love for your friends and family; photographs which will need an antique brass style frame to display them in. Colors that work well in private sanctuaries include navy or cobalt blues, deep chocolates, and forest greens as darker colors create a womb or cave like feeling and aid deep sleep.
If you are determined to create a space that is purely self indulgent, then why not add a radio/cd system, television and traditional writing desk where you will be able to enjoy your own private little world, but this is obviously something that is dependant on available space. It is not uncommon to place concealed fridges either in addition to tea or coffee making facilities which almost provide the feel of a quality hotel suite. If you have a busy home then remodeling your bedroom into a place where you can disappear for a while to enjoy some peace and relaxation is not such a bad idea.
